Build it with me, unpaid

OpenReborn is looking for people who feel like building along — unpaid, no deadlines, no obligation. There is no application process: a short mail saying what appeals to you and how much time you have is plenty.

Where help is needed

01

Godot 4 / C#

Game logic, interface, pathfinding, multiplayer later on. Godot experience helps but is not required — basic C# is enough to start.

02

Reverse engineering

Opening up the unknown sections of the original formats, checking readings against the data, redoing the arithmetic. The slowest and most rewarding part of the project.

03

Graphics & sprites

For the planned Reborn graphics mode: new unit and building art in the spirit of the original, switchable against the derived original pictures.

04

Testing

Playing through missions, reporting crashes and rule deviations, checking the import with your own discs. This one needs the original CDs.

05

Translation

Keeping the game texts and this website clean across German and English. If you want to add another language, get in touch.

06

Docs & wiki

Guides for setup and import, documentation of the file formats, a wiki covering units and missions.

What you should bring

  • An interest in old games, and the patience to verify things instead of guessing them.
  • For testing and import: the two original CDs. Code, graphics, text and docs do not need them.
  • Honesty about what currently does not work — misreadings get withdrawn here, not painted over.
  • No CV, no degree, no professional experience. Half-finished tinkering says more than any credential.

How to get in touch

Send a short mail. You will hear back once I get to it — this is an after-work project.

  • What appeals to you: code, reverse engineering, graphics, testing, translation or docs.
  • Roughly how much time you have — one hour a month is an honest answer.
  • If you have one: a GitHub profile, or anything you have already built.
